In just the past week German national carrier Lufthansa illegally transported more than a tonne of munitions through Irish territory to Israel on three flights.
The Ditch first reported six months ago the airline had been illegally bringing weapons to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) through Irish airspace since at least April 2024.
State-owned air traffic controller AirNav Ireland continues to assist the illegal flights on their journeys through Ireland despite Israel’s campaign of “genocidal acts” against civilians in Gaza.
Transporting munitions of war through Irish airspace without permission from the transport minister is a criminal offence punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment.
Earlier this month The Ditch reported that Lufthansa illegally transported F-35 combat jet components over Ireland just as the IDF resumed bombing Gaza, leading to the deaths of more than 400 civilians in just a few days.
Last Monday and Friday, AirNav Ireland assisted two Lufthansa flights from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Texas to Frankfurt Airport in Germany on their journeys through Irish sovereign airspace.
The two planes carried at least 18 packages containing fighter jet components for the Israel Defense Forces. Another flight carrying munitions of war to Israel – from Atlanta Airport in Georgia to Frankfurt – was also permitted to fly through Irish territory on Saturday morning.
Some packages had originated in US Air Force bases and were for delivery to Nevatim IDF airbase in Israel.
The three flights transported just more than a tonne (1,000 kilogrammes) of key components for Israel’s F-35 fighter jets, which are used to drop bombs on Gaza.
AirNav Ireland has been contacted for comment.
